In Memoriam

Our Grand Chapter and the Masonic Fraternity in our province and country has lost one of its most revered members in the person of Most Excellent Companion Walter Job Parsons, the first and founding Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons of Newfoundland and Labrador. The prosperity of our Grand Chapter for its first quarter century is dependent upon the firm foundation on which it rests. It is fitting to say that MEC Job was our cornerstone. When he retired from a long career in the Canadian Armed Forces and returned home to Green Bay, MEC Job was instrumental in the establishment of James Strong Chapter #32 under the jurisdiction of the Grand Chapter of Nova Scotia where he was reigning Grand High Priest. Membership included Companions from central and western Newfoundland.

He then undertook the leadership of a committee that successfully promoted the establishment of our own Grand Chapter and led discussions for the terms and conditions for an amicable withdrawal from Nova Scotia’s Royal Craft with their full and enthusiastic support. MEC Parsons was elected as our first Grand High Priest.

Throughout his Masonic journey, he was accompanied by his gentle, loving wife, Alberta, whose support was constant and unwavering. She was a tower of strength for him especially during his illness. Most, if not all, of our Past Grand High Priests would agree that MEC Job was a willing mentor, with a vast knowledge of the Royal Craft, which he willingly shared. Above all, we recall the words which we consider to be his mantra.
